At Puerto Cabello Venezuela a granite and bronze shaft honors ten American citizens who died for Venezuelan independence. The fallen were members of General Miranda's ill starred expedition and were executed by Spaniards in July 1806, commemorated by grateful Venezuelans.

Frank Schmidt of Allentown shot and killed his son in law John Grigan in Easton after a quarrel, then killed himself. The pair had clashed a week earlier when Grigan was arrested for assault. the case was dropped, leading to the fatal street confrontation.
