Colts win would put Meyer close to first playoff berth

Indianapolis coach Ron Meyer said the Colts had a strong base and work habits that made a playoff run plausible after an 8-6 finish and a 20-7 win over San Diego. The team, tied for the AFC East lead, needs a win over Tampa Bay to secure the division and a postseason shot. Trudeau could start at quarterback with Hogeboom sidelined.

Jets coach Joe Walton said he will stay with New York after a 38-27 loss to Philadelphia knocked the team from the playoffs. Striking NFL results barely shift playoff picture

As the strike plagued season nears its end, three replacement games with free agents barely affect standings. In the AFC East Miami and Indianapolis sit 8-6 with a tiebreaker edge possible. NFC Central sees Chicago and Minnesota at 6-3 in non strike games, while Giants dropped to 0-5 after the strike. Several teams remain in playoff contention as final weekend approaches with dozens of scenarios unresolved.
