State Seeks Catoctin Area Transfer To County
Federal relinquishment of the 10,120 acre Catoctin Recreation Area in Frederick County was urged by the State Department of Forests and Parks as relief for the shrinking tax base. State Forester Joseph F Kaylor cited a 99 year lease program and proposed revenue growth from state management, with eventual annual yields reaching about 10,000 after reforms. The Interior Department has not fulfilled its pledge to transfer, he said, to provide Frederick County with needed revenue.
