Gaither Report sparks Senate charges over secrecy
Washington senators from both parties assail President Eisenhower’s administration for suppressing the Gaither Report. They demand full disclosure of conclusions and supporting details, arguing the document reveals US weakness against the Soviet threat and urges rapid military buildup and civil defense measures. James Hagerty offered no White House comment.

Not Guilty In Theft Case At Frederick Court
A Washington builder worked on the Atomic Energy Headquarters project in Germantown was acquitted after a jury-like magistrate trial over a $10 cash theft from Jean Hahn of Frederick. Testimony showed Hahn’s car was jolted by snow and a group of youths allegedly took the money. Glass defended, arguing one witness had motive to lie. Magistrate Edward J. Smith ruled the defense proved reasonable doubt and the defendant was found not guilty. A second case involved William H. Roberts, accused of assault, with wife testimony and corroboration by a police sergeant, but the magistrate’s ruling focused on the theft matter.

Court actions mix with divorce ruling and arrest reports
The court upheld a divorce for Joseph M. Ganley Jr. and his wife Carolyn B. Ganley after desertion, while another case awarded custody and support to the wife. An executor was ordered to fully account for estates of Frank W. King and Mrs. King. Separate reports note a Gaithersburg man charged with speeding, a life-tenured defendant guilty of assault awaiting sentencing, and a Johnstown man charged with speeding on West Street. Additionally, a 2-year-old is listed among those charged with intoxication as police report weekend incidents. The week’s unemployment claims rose to 413,200 for the period ending December 4.
