Middletown Valley residents aged 60 plus receive home delivered meals via MVPHP and Frederick County Aging. Volunteers verify wellbeing, notify family in emergencies, and seek donations to cover meal costs. Also recruiting drivers for Middletown Myersville and Wolfsville routes.
The Thurmont Senior Citizens Center at 806 E Main St lists daily hours 9 AM to 2 PM and a Food and Friends noon meal Monday through Friday when open. A busy January calendar features crafts, quilting, exercise with Maggie, card games, birthday party, shopping trips, and canaries rehearsal. reservations and center closure dates for holidays and weather are noted along with a contact number 302-271-7911.
Parkway Elementary students from 4th and 5th grades including Demetrius Bowie and Nicholas Weeks decorated the school office tree with handmade patriotic ornaments and flags. A larger group of students contributed to making ornaments and hanging the tree decorations.
A series of county notices outlines the Robert McCauley Historical Lecture at the Washington County Free Library with Roger Keller speaking on Conne cuts and 225 years of county history. Additional events include recreation center openings, hikes, Santa at a thrift shop, hypnosis talk, and Alliance Francaise Epiphanie celebrations with dates, times, and contact numbers.
Community support groups cover MS caregiver support meeting on the first Thursday monthly with contact Louise at 301-6628278. A sickle cell anemia group gathers Saturday January 5 at 12:30 p.m. at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital with Beatrice Bowie at 301-972-2442 for info. Eating disorder groups for adults and families meet Wednesday June 2 at 7 p.m. contact 301-OP7-T788.
The Compassionate Friends Frederick Chapter invites bereaved parents to its monthly meeting on January 2 at 7 40 p m at Trinity United Methodist Church West Patrick Street and Kling Boulevard. A joint session with the Living with Hepatitis after Transplant group occurs the same evening at Frederick County Health Department entrance C from 7 to pan with Roberta Strohl as guest speaker.
