Smith Island center planned visitors center on island
The old Smith Island school will be turned into a visitors center with exhibits on island life and crafts sold by residents. The Board of Public Works approved $61,000 to purchase the building, with private funds for development. Somerset County will maintain and operate the center, liked by island residents.
