No Final Action On Tax Bill Before Christmas
Washington reports concede the Treasury will lose 100000 dollars as action on the second wartime tax bill is deferred past Christmas. The Ways and Means Committee set December 20 for action, but leaders defer until after January 10, delaying higher levies on luxuries and postponing postal rate hikes. February 1 becomes the earliest date taxes may rise on items like liquor, cosmetics, and travel.
