Widening of Bentz and Second Streets Planned
The Board of Aldermen at their monthly meeting approved widening plans for Bentz and Second streets around the old Reformed graveyard to create a memorial park. City Attorney Smith was tasked with acquiring frontage and handling legal steps, with transfers largely from the Evangelical Reformed church. The plan adds a 10 foot widening on Bentz Street and creates multiple driveways around the cemetery to form a near square park, plus repairs reimbursements for the Independent Hose Company steamer damaged during service. The city also approved police salary increase to 1100 annually and confirmed new police bonds. Minor items included a resident’s timber offer, street congestion concerns, and an inspection of North Market Street work.
