Jailed moms in Montgomery read aloud to kids on audiotape
Seven incarcerated women at Montgomery County Detention Center will record children's books on audiotape to send a message of love to their kids. The Storybook Project lets mothers read favorites like Dr Seuss and include inscriptions, maintaining positive contact and connection for the child. Mothers are in good standing with their children, with no history of abuse or neglect, and participate with volunteers. The program, funded by the Commission for Women and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, aims to lessen the impact of incarceration on families and offers community support.
