Volunteers asked to ride along Christmas with local police

For 23 years Beth Sholom Congregation in Frederick has invited volunteers to ride along with Frederick City Police and Frederick County Sheriff's Office on Christmas. Organizer Darlene Carver says the effort boosts officer morale on a long, quiet shift, but volunteer interest has waned. She is broadening the call beyond the Jewish community, noting Christians have provided steady help for the last two years. Most volunteers are non Jewish now.

Santa's Workshop fun for kindergartners at Heather Ridge

Heather Ridge School held its sixth Santa's Workshop with all 150 students and staff, entertaining about 80 morning kindergartners from North Frederick Elementary with storytelling face painting ornament making snacks and activities. Eighth grader Keith Mullens read poems to kindergartners and found the event both nerve wracking and enjoyable.
