Argentine troops dislodged rightist air force rebels from a government station seized earlier. News service reports the army used armored vehicles and talks with air force personnel led to the rebels leaving. No official confirmation yet.
Rebel brigadier general Orlando Capellini leads a right wing movement claiming air force support and seizing key bases including Moron and an airport in Buenos Aires. Belgrano radio broadcasts rebel manifestos as Interior Minister Hubledo says the rebellion is checked.
In Beirut Moslem leaders press a set of minimum demands to end religious quotas in civil service, parliament, judgeships, and army commands. They seek proportional representation and constitutional changes to rebalance power between Muslims and Christians amid ongoing civil war with 7,000 dead. Cease-fire holds with sporadic clashes in suburbs and outlying towns.
In Paris representatives from 16 industrialized and 19 developing countries open a year of talks to reduce inequities. Four commissions will tackle oil and energy, raw materials, development, and finance. Negotiations start February 11 with disputed mandate details to be reviewed later.
A group of thirty Swedes and Danes depart for a 17 day visit to Hanoi Haiphong Don Son Gulf of Tonkin and battlefields to gauge Western tourist response. The trip costs 1275 to 1800 dollars with travel via East Berlin Moscow and Dacca on Scandinavian Airlines and Interflug.
