Schaefer wins pay raises for three Maryland cabinet posts
Governor elect Schaefer pressured the Maryland Board of Public Works with Governor Hughes, Comptroller Goldstein, and Treasurer William James to use emergency powers and raise salaries for the Economic and Community Development, Transportation, and Public Safety and Corrections secretaries. The move, supported after lunch, sets top state officials above the governor’s $75,000 salary and ahead of many federal officers, prompting questions about legislative approval and retention of talent.
