Strigent Dog License Law Debated by County Officials
County officials discussed tightening the dog license law as the General Assembly session nears. They reported about 3,300 dog licenses issued since July 1, with 8,700 sold in the prior fiscal year, noting many owners dodge penalties. A proposal urged allowing delinquents to be credited for compliance after a shortened notice, and deputies to curb noncompliance. Also noted were fines and investigations by the sheriff, and about 3,000 licenses purchased since a rural roundup began.

A Maryland magistrate in Frederick County convicts or suspends sentences in several cases, including Mrs Harold M Staley fined $1 for parking in a restricted zone after claiming she was entering a store. Officer Harry Quinn cited the offense on West Patrick Street Friday night. The defendant argued the curbs were blocked by others and questioned clerk speed. A 39 day jail sentence for Josh Rutherford was suspended on a separate assault charge. Meredith Cole was found technically not guilty of firing a pistol in a hallway, claiming a firecracker caused the noise.
