Bridge the Expert Way in a Hand from Morehead Theory

In a feature tied to Albert H. Morehead, a hand from North and South tests the idea to avoid overreliance on systems. Morehead’s West overcall of two hearts suggests strategic misgivings about hidebound play, leading to a four spade contract and a sequence of defensive plays that yield a favorable outcome for South. The column blends bridge theory with practical play as a radio program schedule interrupts with a detailed bid and play example.

Deer Hunters Outpace Small Game in Woodsmen Skill

Herman Toms district forest warden for the State says deer hunters in Frederick County are better woodsmen than small game hunters. He notes no forest fires started by deer hunters over thousands of acres in the Cal oктin Recreational Area Gambrill Park Lewistown and Wolfsville. Two fires occurred in hunting week but were caused by cigarettes from small game hunters on South Mountain. Toms warns fire danger remains acute with no measurable snow, scarce water, and only a thin ice layer forming across roads. He reports fire towers manned throughout the district except Salamander. Conservationists stress wildlife value for recreation food and insect control amid drought and rationing.
