Relief on High ALR Fares Short-Lived in Frederick
Relief from higher passenger rates set by railroads entering Frederick on December 15 was brief as Pennsylvania offices received notice the new schedule should take effect at once. An injunction in Baltimore county paused the rise, then modified or dissolved, restoring the higher rates. Round trip tickets disappear across the three lines as two-way fares double the one-way price. The three roads now match, with mileage rates set at 60 miles each way. Without mileage books, round trips to Baltimore cost at least $3.52. old round-trip fares of $2.50, $3.00, and $3.20 vanish. The B and O has not announced modifications, while ICC suspended B and O commutation rates near Washington pending review.
