Plague Cases Found On Saxon Prince Steamer
Three cases of bubonic plague are under treatment at Swinburne Island hospital after the Prince line steamer Saxon Prince from Durban, South Africa, arrived Monday. The first patient is convalescent, the other two still under treatment. all three slept in the same compartment. The crew totals 31 with five passengers aboard. The ship will be sent to sea to discharge ballast, then return to quarantine with all aboard held for 10 days at Hoffman Island for observation. Dr Doty says there is no danger of wider spread.

Statehood bill laid aside for Senate holiday recess
Washington December 17 Senate action paused further discussion on the omni bus statehood bill with unanimous consent until January reconvening. Senator Teller sought to reply to alleged slanders but the agreement stood. Other business included criticism of isthmian canal commission salaries and a Georgia senator opposing a reserve force provision.
