Rural America talk winner to attend national event
Mrs Mary BR McGolerick of New Market returned from Chicago where she took part in the Associated Women of the American Farm Bureau sessions. She won second place in the national speaking contest among 1,200 women from 32 states and previously won the southern regional contest. Her topic was Wealth for Rural America.

Child Burned To Death In Hospital Ward Tragedy
Washington reports a 2 year old child died in a Gallinger Hospital children's ward last night. Resident Dr Kenneth Laughlin sustained burns while extinguishing flames on the bedside mattress and clothing. The ward, an aging frame building used for child cases, has long been seen as a fire risk.

Washington Tax Panel Rejects Plan To Repeal Profits Tax
CAPA House tax subcommittee rejected a Republican bid to repeal the tax on undistributed corporate profits. The vote was six to three against moving forward, with Representative Crowther leading the opposition. The committee did not adopt any plan to raise the standard corporate tax from 8 percent to 12 percent, nor to adjust the capital gains tax to the proposed 2.5 percent.
