Washington December 17 A council met to decide future action on Rear Admiral Schley regarding the court of inquiry findings. Schley and Rayner submitted a letter requesting withholding approval and delaying dissolution until objections are filed. Secretary Long granted the request for time, with Friday as the filing deadline.
New York December 17 Andrew Freedman secured a Supreme Court injunction to block A G Spalding from becoming National League president and to restrain interference with the National League. Young must surrender league records. hearing set for December 19. Spalding vowed to preside at future meetings and challenged Freedman.
Ottumwa, Ia Dec 17 George G Dubose formerly bookkeeper for Iowa and Illinois Coal accused of embezzling 1700. He is confined in Detention Hospital with smallpox. Accuser Michael Levisu of Chicago, who came to fill Dubose position, reported the shortage and later died by his own hand after resigning and returning to Chicago.
Park Benjamin, head of the naval arch commission, said the proposed naval arch and water gate at the Battery are temporarily abandoned due to dissension exposed by the Spaien trial. Costs were to be 1 200 900 and 500 000 pledged. The decision follows navy rifts making further action unwise at present.
