Maryland mother sentenced in attempted murder of infant

Tanisha Montague, a 19 year old Jamaican mother, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempted murder after discarding her newborn in a trash container during a blizzard last January. The judge rejected a lighter plea, noting the defenseless infant and the need to set a strong community example. The baby, named Angel, survived and is in foster care as prosecutors had sought a 12 year term, while defense argued for a one year sentence.
