City Faces Dual Tax Increases This Week
Taxpayers in the county and city are warned of higher rates after prospective budget requests push up local spending. County officials anticipate a 15 to 20 cent rise per $100 of assessed value, while the city may see at least a 10 cent increase. The county budget includes education needs totaling $377,585 more from local sources, with cuts expected to restrain overall growth. The city also reviews reductions and hints at possible bond issues for capital improvements. The county commissioners decide today and the city council meets Thursday at 7 p.m. to adopt budgets and set tax rates.
