Aldermen Fail To Get Quorum In City Budget Hold

Frederick Maryland aldermen could not approve the 1944 budget and tax rate after only two members appeared. Mayor Gittinger and officials tried to reach a third member to form a quorum, delaying the session to next Tuesday night. Aldermen McCain Stup and illness in the group left Oden and Staley unavailable, Bowlus absent, and a quorum adjournment suggestion dropped. City Attorney James prepared ordinances setting a $1.12 tax per $100 and adopting county assessments. Delinquent tax bills were presented for collection as tax bills proceeded. The issue involved Grove Wolte rebate and John W. Grove land release matters. Grove appeared with attorney Newman seeking relief on 23 acres near Frederick High School.
