Princess Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg known as Princess Ena is rumored to have captured King Alfonso of Spain’s heart though he says he is not engaged. Ena, daughter of Prince Henry of Battenberg, is described as very pretty.
Mor man Willams aged 15 in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania regained his voice after a month long illness. Several physicians failed to help him but he suddenly spoke clearly and sang for hours after feeling a strong urge to speak.
An advertisement likens washing without water to treating dandruff with unsuitable products. It endorses Xenbro's Herpicide as effective, claiming it targets the parasitic germ on hair roots and promotes its originality and availability through druggists. A 10 cent sample is offered by The Herpicide Co. in Detroit Michigan.
Norfolk Virginia reports the Belgian steamship Antigeon driven ashore at Little Island after a 48 hour battle with winds and waves. Nineteen crewmen were saved by life saving crews using a breeches buoy as Captain Calimetta and papers were brought ashore while the vessel listed further.
Reports from St. Petersburg and East Prussia describe violent clashes in Riga between troops and riotous peasants and workers. Machine guns were deployed as revolutions spread to estates, with garrisons forced to surrender, plunder and arson reported in the countryside.

New York report details Thomas F. Ryan and E. H. Harriman testimonies to a legislative Insurance committee. Ryan alleges Harriman demanded half of Hyde stock and control, threatening political influence. Harriman counters that he did not initiate the present investigation and questions motive.
In a congressional hearing, E H. Harriman denies using Odell influence to sway legislation. He laughs off a remark about Odell and notes he asked legislators to watch for favorable bills, while denying directing actions via Governor Higgins and Speaker Niven. Also reports a guilty embezzlement verdict against Wellington Woods and a Cuban Congress bill proposing $10,900 for Cuban aircraft workers at Key West.
Washington December 16 The house spent four and three quarter hours debating how to control insurance firms with speeches by Mr Sheriey of Kentucky and Mr Cochran of New York. Cochran urged restricting companies to their home states. Mann of Abington proposed later actions and a voluntary federal exam. Williams, party leader, argued taxation cannot enforce reform. Cochran praised the need to curb misdeeds while warning against masking crime with rhetoric. Governor Pennypacker scheduled February 8 for execution of Jan Sa lerno in Williamsport, Pa.
A federal grand jury in Kansas City returned fourteen indictments charging common carriers railway officials shippers and freight agents with giving rebates and conspiring to gain rebates. Named defendants include George G Crosby George L Thomas J B Taggart and executives from the Chicago Burlington & Quincy Chicago Milwaukie & St Paul and packing firms such as Cudahy Swift Armour Nelson Morris Ira Morris and D H Kreskip. Evidence centers on pro rata rate divisions and cash transfers to Lehigh Valley backed by intercity connections.
Cleveland December 18 William Guy recently discharged from the Newbury Insane Asylum shot and killed his brother-in-law Harry Flint aged 15 and a one month old infant at 280 Brownell Street He then fatally shot Mrs Bennett at Central Avenue before being arrested The spree followed his return home after learning of his wife s alleged infidelity The youth had been confined for mental illness and used a revolver in the attack
