EU to send peacekeeping force for Afghanistan alliance
EU leaders propose deploying 3000 to 4000 troops from all 15 member states to join a U.N. backed mission in Afghanistan. Britain would lead the effort with a small reconnaissance party to Kabul while awaiting Security Council approval. United States coordinates with NATO efforts as Afghan authorities prepare for a new government.
