Fort Detrick Labs Study Exotic Diseases and Defense
Fort Detrick conducted biological weapons research from 1942 to 1969 under Nixon, who ordered the offensive labs closed while defensive work continued and later moved to the National Cancer Institute. At the Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases scientists study deadly diseases like anthrax plague Ebola and Lassa fever to develop diagnostics and vaccines. Dr Beisel notes lessons on aerosol and mycotoxin threats and that soap and water can help protect against exposure as research methods evolved.

Bechtel operates the county’s largest vanpool fleet and aims to help other employers ease commuting.
