Butter per person per month in 1944
Chicago December 14 The American civilian butter share likely stays about one pound per person monthly in 1944. Tom G Stitt chief of War Food Administration dairy and poultry branch outlined early estimates for 1944 explaining allocations and set aside plans. He noted Russians receive similar quantities as this year while Australia and New Zealand supply about 20 million pounds annually for armed forces. Government has butter on hand to meet requirements through March with April production to begin under a set aside program. He added milk use on the home front remains important with dried milk and cheese less demanded abroad.
