Doolittle turns 95 as Pearl Harbor raid hero still admired

Air Force to sack 3300 as SAC closes and Offutt loses jobs

The Strategic Air Command will be dismantled, cutting 2,820 military and 544 civilian positions at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha as SAC disappears. Offutt becomes headquarters for a new multiservice United States Strategic Command, with 18 SAC bases joining two new commands next June 1.
