Walker punished too severely says Thurmond
Washington Senator Strom Thurmond defended former Major General Edwin A Walker, saying he does not know all the facts but believes Walker should not have lost his command. Walker resigned after being admonished for derogatory remarks about prominent Americans and for trying to influence troop voting. Thurmond criticized defense officials for muzzling military readers and noted that admonishment would have sufficed.
