Nixon Inauguration Faces Pageantry and Costs
Nixon's 1964 inauguration explores striking contrasts with early presidencies. Jefferson would witness a shift from Spartan rite to grand spectacle as Capitol ceremonies cost an estimated $300,000, with 18,300 seats and parade funding from tickets and ads. Historical notes trace outdoor oaths, inaugural balls, and televised coverage shaping a modern ceremony.
