Job Situation Shows Modest November Recovery
The Commerce and Labor Departments report a modest uptick in employment in November with total unemployment at 2,893,000 and factory jobs at their highest since March. Factory pay hit a record weekly average of 72.98 dollars, and the factory work week rose to 40.1 hours. Despite gains, overall nonfarm employment remained below 1953 levels as farm layoffs continued and auto plants helped buoy manufacturing.
