GM And Ford Refuse To Halt 1951 Price Increases

General Motors and Ford rejected a Government request to rescind price boosts for 1951 model cars, calling it impractical and saying they were disturbed by the demand. GM announced higher prices of 60 to 80 dollars for Chevrolets, with similar rises expected across brands, while Ford listed increases from 87.50 to 165 dollars for its lines. The ESA had urged withholding price increases amid inflation concerns as Wilson noted the rises averaged about 5.7 percent.

Attlee left for Ottawa to report to his government as talks outlined 11 steps to counter threats without a common stance on China. The communique urged that military preparations be defensive and that Soviet and Chinese leaders could modify conduct to avoid such measures.
