Fewer eggs to be needed in 1945 for Maryland poultry
Sixteen percent fewer eggs will be needed in 1945 than 1944, per War Food Administration guidance to Dr Morley A Jull of the Maryland University poultry department. Maryland hen owners must reduce laying flocks through culling, with potential losses if feed prices stay high. About 3 918 000 layers are projected Jan 4, 3 324 000 would be enough, and 1 116 000 layers should be culled between Jan 1 and Mar 1. Evidence from WFA details state goals and culling plans.

Magic Gadgets Not To Materialize So Soon
College Park December 8 Those magic home gadgets promised by scientists after the war will likely lag in peacetime production. University of Maryland Extension Service home economics specialists report 1945 outlook suggests 1942 style equipment with tweaks based on housewives’ preferences. Revisions focus on stove layouts flat burners front controls white enamel finish and safer arrangements. Refrigerator designs favor cabinetlike form with easy reach shelves and separate freezing units. Vacuum cleaners will use a liquid dust compartment replacing bags. Electronic heat for cooking remains unlikely due to cost and unproven palatability.
