Arts school proposal met with resistance
Middletown residents oppose the Lucy School proposal by Victoria Brown and Christopher Zachariadis to convert a 6 acre farm at 9117 Frostown Road into an arts oriented preschool and teacher training site. They fear disruption, traffic, and impact on Middletown Creek while Brown cites nature based learning and preservation of the farm. The Frederick County Board of Appeals will hear testimony on December 18 at Winchester Hall.

Rockville county schools propose 1.4 plan with full day kindergartens
Superintendent Jerry Weast presents a 1.4 plan for a 14 billion operating budget to Montgomery County Council. The plan funds enrollment growth for 2,000 students, adds full day kindergartens to several schools bringing total to 47, and creates a Center for the Highly Gifted. It includes hiring freezes, budget cuts totaling 12 million in expansions, and 23 million in current operations reductions, with 168 positions eliminated or reassigned. Steven Silverman calls the plan responsible and responsive as class size and kindergarten access rise.
