Migration of Farm Laborers Surveyed

Local draft board officials yesterday announced the intention of Selective Service to crack down on unauthorized migration of deferred farm laborers. Eight recent cases of movement from farm to farm in this county are under survey. Rules for changing employers after deferment will apply on farms same as in industry. Unauthorized changes may be met with I A draft classifications. All farm employees to be deferred must file yearly, the Chief Clerk said for Draft Board Two. Exceptions exist for farms producing deficient units as specified by the Department of Agriculture. A hand hired for the year must secure a release to leave a farmer or face draft with deferment revoked. A farm hand cannot quit a contract for 30 days before hiring on a defense job without a release. Temporary releases in off-season may be granted to work in defense plants on the farm with approvals from the County Agent, County War Board, or US Employment Service.
