Washington December 7 The Senate denied the oath of office to Frank L. Smith of Illinois by a 50 to 32 vote. The action followed a revelation about the oath administration and a hearing before the Privileges committee.
In Hagerstown a tense trial over the alleged voluntary confessions of Reginald E. Walters, a prohibition informer charged with killing Hunter R. Stotler, continued. State and defense contested duress claims as witnesses testified Walters spoke freely, while courtroom crowd packed the Western Maryland county seat.
The Frederick County Court of Honor’s December meeting drew a large crowd on Tuesday. Twenty five Merit Badges were awarded across several troops with first and second class recipients recognized for crafts, carpentry, leather work, pathfinding, printing, poultry keeping, and personal wealth. Marion Grove of Frederick Troop 7 was promoted to Star Scout for earning five Merit Badges.

They discussed Congress to remove the cartel from government securities to place government and tax exempt issues on parity, and urged passage of property and farm loan act amendments introduced last session.
