High Waters of Potomac Recede in Frederick County
The worst flood of 1950 in Frederick County receded today with major damage to summer cabins along the Potomac at Lander. The Potomac fell from crest near 15.40 feet at Harpers Ferry and around 17.80 feet elsewhere. A dozen cabins were inundated. several were still underwater. Monocacy waters also receded. roads reopened. a car stalled in floodwaters and two occupants escaped. Hazards included water near the Frederick City disposal plant and submerged construction at the Monocacy bridge site.

Two Shot To Death In Auto Near Darnestown
A man and woman were found shot to death in a car near Rockville Maryland last night. The man was identified as Wilson Lelane Clark, 64, a government employee formerly of Seattle, and the woman as his wife. Each had a single bullet wound, he with a .38 revolver in his hand. A telegram in his pocket mentioned cremation for John Jark of Berkeley California. The vehicle had Washington state plates and was found on Route 28 seven miles north of Rockville. Market news notes a rise in automobile stocks in New York with prices up a few cents to about a dollar a share.

Mrs. G C Maddox says long telephone conversations on an eight party line prevented her from calling firefighters promptly, and her farm house was destroyed by a fire started in the flue. Some furniture was saved, and neighbors kept the line busy for about 30 minutes before a call through to the Bluefield Fire Department succeeded. The fire fighters saved the telephone.
