Fate of Chapman to be decided by federal judge
Hartford Dec 3 Gerald Chapman the convicted mail robber and murderer faced a rul ing on his writ of habeas corpus. Federal Judge Edwin Thomas of Norwalk planned a decision by mid next week that could send Chapman back to Atlanta to finish a 25 year sentence or allow Connecticut to execute him for the New Britain policeman murder. If the writ is denied Chapman's lawyers will appeal to the US Circuit Court of Appeals then possibly the US Supreme Court.
