Government drops sedition case against three radicals
In Springfield Massachusetts the government after three years and more than two million dollars in costs will not retry a sedition and racketeering case against three militants from the 1970s. Raymond Levasseur and Richard Williams remain jailed on other bombings while Patricia Levasseur was released after serving time for harboring a fugitive. The action ends a costly prosecution with a mistrial on racketeering charges and a partial verdict on sedition. The defendants faced charges alleging a conspiracy to overthrow the government by bombings and robberies.

Solar Max ends long space career after decay
Solar Max, launched in February 1980, faced atmospheric drag and decayed from an initial 300 mile orbit after traveling 1.4 billion miles. It was the first satellite repairable by a space shuttle crew and helped study solar activity including Supernova 1987a rays and sunspot magnetic fields. The mission cost 77 million dollars, with a proposed 25 million shuttle mission to boost it ruled out.
