County boards heard rival plans for a new southwest elementary school. Burkittsville residents urged a midway site between Burkittsville and Jefferson while Jefferson residents argued for a site within Jefferson.
The Frederick County School Board approved two more change orders for the Thomas Johnson High School project costing $21,283. A $20,000 order covers extra rock excavation around the boiler room site on the Rose Hill Manor estate between North Market Street and Motter Avenue. The other $1,283 covers wiring and equipment hookups in home economics rooms. Vice president C Gordon Smith questioned the need and warned against future costly change orders as a precedent.
Mrs Joyce Mason is named speech therapist at the Easter Seal Treatment Center on North Market Street extended, filling the vacancy after Anthony Hanson’s death in a vehicle crash near Culpeper Virginia on Oct 17. Dr George H Nelson announced the appointment.
At 8 57 pm in downtown Frederick 16 year old Diane Keeney drove with soup on the front seat causing her car to cross West Second Street and strike a parked car owned by Mabel Ohler. Both cars sustained about 150 dollars in damage. Cpl. Bernard E King investigated.
