Deer Season Opens Amid Heavy Hunter Traffic and Early Kills
The first day of deer season drew many hunters who reported dozens of deer shot and checked at stations. Earl Himes of Boonsboro bagged a 313 pound buck on Paine's Hill, while 11 year old Jay Delphey took a 3 point buck. Other top catches included a 133 pound 8 point buck near Friends Creek by Austin Wolfe of Garfield and a 27 point back by John W. Fox of Lantz. Two unusual incidents involved a hunter wounded deer by repeated shots and a coin toss settling ownership of an eight point, 102 pound deer split between Lefty Kreh’s station reports. The day marked the season’s start with totals tracking behind record years.
