Dominant Hill At Stalingrad Recaptured

Stalingrad defenders recaptured Yuzhnaya hill dominating the southern city side and pushed outward by up to five miles. A two day battle reportedly beat an enemy division as Red Star notes, a gain that weakens the siege on the Volga port as Soviet offensives press west and air activity aids the effort. Kurgan Hill to the north had already been retaken by Maj. Gen. Alexei Rodintzev’s guards.
