Montgomery County Residents Back New Potomac Crossing
More than 8,000 Montgomery County residents replied to Rep. Morella’s spring poll, 67 percent in favor of a second Potomac River crossing north of the American Legion Bridge. Critics say the survey was not scientific, yet proponents say it signals demand for traffic relief and a new study of bridge options including a Techway.

Maryland blue crab catch edges up despite 2001 rules
Maryland reports about 20.5 million pounds of Chesapeake Bay blue crabs caught in 2001, up slightly from 2000, though regulations imposed July 24 restricted November crabbing and limited watermen to eight hours daily. Officials note the figure remains about 30 percent below long term averages while the season totals rose in midsummer to fall. Watermen oppose the restrictions, arguing plenty of crabs remain.
