The News urges churches to mail service notices by Friday evening for Saturday publication. Notices received after 9 o clock Saturday morning will not be published that day. Notices should be brief and adhere to the deadline.
Crowded stores across the city plunged into darkness Saturday night as a power outage halted lights and festive activity. Clerks paused mid conversation as shoppers awaited restoration, with many items left on counters. Power crews traced two trouble sources near Thurmont and along the Braddock line, restoring lights by early morning.
The county commissioners completed organization today with David Oland as president and T Frank Hightman as vice president. Arthur D Willard nominated for attorney, with Reno S Harp and Alban M Wood vying on ballots. final tally favored Willard and Harp. New board includes Wood and George D Toms four year terms, with Oland, Hightman, Martin continuing in roles. sheriff and judges to be named later.
A meeting at the Y M C A in Frederick outlined plans to open a YWCA room as a county shoppers headquarters. Miss Helena Stauffer announced cooperation with the YWCA and a weekly discussion group on women’s needs to meet Tuesdays at 7 30 PM in the Y M C A building.
Maryland motor vehicle fines for the past week totaled 1 473 with Frederick county contributing 26, Baltimore city 23, and Nes Market 4 10. Cumberland and Hagerstown posted smaller sums, while local arrests in Frederick included Potzoll 25 for speeding and Park 10 for registration lapses. Postage rates may drop to one cent for local letters pending Congress approval.
The Smith Studio moves from 39 Noh Market Street to 4 and 6 Mas Second Street on the ground floor and promises modern methods for real pictures. Weather won’t affect its production. Jo and 6 East Second St is nearby while Dr Henry P Pahrney will be out of the city until Saturday evening December 6.
