New Frederick County teachers welcomed for opening week

Marijuana Charge Made Against Boy
An 18-year-old Frederick city youth on probation after a prior summer arrest for drug abuse was arrested Friday night near a marijuana field discovered earlier by State Police. Bloodmobile to Visit American Legion Post 11

Weekend Mishaps Claim Two Lives
Five county residents died or were seriously injured in weekend accidents across the area. Drowning victim Carroll Wilt, 24, of West Fifth Street, perished in the Monocacy River near Frederick after an aluminum canoe overturned Saturday night. his companion Charles McDonald, 29, survived. Wilt was unable to swim and clung to the canoe as it drifted to shore while friends attempted a lengthy search that recovered his body around 12:47 a.m. Sunday with the aid of Frederick police. Wilt’s friend McDonald flagged motorists for help. In a separate incident, David Lee Hunt, 27, a Fort Detrick employee, died Sunday when his motorcycle left U.S. 40-A after hitting a telegraph pole near Clifton Road and alternate U.S. 40. Hunt’s body was taken to the Baltimore City Morgue. Merie Turner, 45, of Jessup, remained hospitalized Monday after a Jeep and trailer jumped an overpass on Md. 340. Turner was eastbound when the vehicle sailed 40 feet through the air. The report notes police say the rider failed to slow for a curve.

He is 19, 6 feet, 142 pounds with blond hair and a leather armband, armed with a 12 gauge shotgun and a pistol. Aware of an assault on a Virginia trooper in Warrenton, investigators used helicopter and K-9 teams to search the Hyattstown area and surrounding roads.
