Auto Jumped Ditch and Dented Fence in Fast Road Crash
A big six cylinder Hudson touring car with one occupant crashed after speeding along State Road near Col. E. Austin Baughman’s residence at Brad dock. The car plunged down a steep embankment, tore through a post and rail fence and a wire fence, jumped a ditch two feet wide and three or four feet deep, but the driver was not injured. Only a bent bumper was reported as damage. The driver, whose identity is unknown but likely from Baltimore, continued toward Hagerstown after the incident following heavy rain. A fence wire was charged by the car’s batteries, flinging the driver to the ground briefly. The accident occurred about 35 to 40 miles per hour.

Draft for $11 400 Lost in Transit from Annapolis to Frederick
Major D John Markey reports a state draft for 11 408 59 issued by the Maryland comptroller payable to the Frederick Armory Commission to cover costs of a new armory for Company A. The draft left Annapolis Aug 24 and has not reached Frederick. The comptroller's office will stop payment and issue a duplicate. The incident prompts added caution as banks will not cash large drafts without solid ID. Major Markey, elected to fill a vacancy in the First Regiment, will receive a major’s pay and assume three personal appointments. Company A may elect a new captain soon as Markey’s promotion creates a vacancy. The company recently returned from camp at Saunders Range after a week of extensive instruction.
