Record exhibits expected at fair Geisbert enters for 43rd year

As the Great Frederick Fair opens on September 19 for its 110th year a record number of exhibits is anticipated with livestock entries received. Austin Geisbert of Laytonsville marks his 43rd year in swine and promotes a sow with piglets for children. The 4 H events include a cow contest at 7 p.m. Tuesday and a call sale from six breeds at the dairy show ring. The 4 H beef, sheep and swine sale moves to Thursday at 7 p.m. with prize animals. Other events include a Horse and Pony Show at 9 20 a.m. and Queen contest at 7 30 p.m. Monday features tractor pull and 4 H cake auction with prize winning cakes.

Dorsey backs Lee for governor endorsement

County Commissioner President Lawrence Dorsey endorsed Acting Governor Blair Lee III during a bruncheon in Frederick County. The surprise public show of support occurred at Fitzgerald's Shamrock Restaurant as Lee spoke to business and government leaders. Lee declined to endorse Dorsey, citing his policy of not involving himself in local politics.

Tax film disposal dispute at Hall of Records continues

Tax files details reveal that microfilm from the Income Tax Division may have been processed outside Hall of Records security. State records administrator Philip Schneider questions destruction practices and notes 12 copies found in May were sent to the Income Tax Division, with officials refusing to confirm their return.

Watershed repair plan discussed by city officials

The Baltimore district engineer approved a July 31 report advising repairs to the Fishing Creek Dam watershed. It calls locating toe drains, repairing spillway cracks, studying outlet discharges, recording seepage, removing downstream brush, improving access, and lifting the dam top to uniform height with a downstream warning system. The city will seek further opinions on erosion control.
