Thurmont planners OK Super Thrift addition and zoning talks
Thurmont planning board unanimously approved an $8 by 108 foot addition to the Super Thrift, fronting the store with added parking. Owner Nick Oyer aims for December completion. Long discussion followed on duplex housing changes, with officials opposing duplexes in R-2 zones and calling for tighter zoning rules while planning further study. Jim Hinkle proposed subdividing the former Lester Moser property into three parcels for a Pieza Hut, a house-turned-commercial space, and a third lot for business, contingent on curb and gutter, water and sewer upgrades or a bond with the State Highway Administration. He will meet with Nancy Rice before the next meeting.
