Conservation Stamp Issued for Frederick and Catoctin Districts
The Frederick and Catoctin Soil Conservation Districts were honored with four cent soil conservation stamps released locally by the Frederick Post Office. Postmaster James A. Grove presented the first stamp to George T Swartz, a Soil Conservation Service official in Winchester Hall, recognizing over 25 years of effort to prevent erosion and boost soil productivity. The stamp, depicting five conservation measures, marks the districts formed in 1939 and 1942 and highlights district cooperators and district supervisors.
