U S Department of Agriculture findings reported by the county agent show sprays that retard fruit drop cut pre harvest losses in apples and pears from about 20 percent to under 6 percent in many orchards. The sprays are plant growth regulators that halt the abcission process and keep fruit on the tree for 10 days to four weeks depending on the compound used. NAA is the only compound suitable for airplane spraying. Other compounds are less effective or require precise timing.
