Roosevelt Speech at Plattsburg Camp Draws Protests
Washington Aug 27 Secretary Adlai E. Stevenson telegraphed Major General Leonard Wood expressing regret that Roosevelt's Wednesday speech at the Plattsburg camp was permitted. He warned that such remarks could undermine the training purpose, urging no similar external speeches at Plattsburg or other camps. Secretary Garrison released a portion of Wood's August 14 letter explaining his remarks, which satisfied the War Department.
