Farm dispute upholds flies and manure as part of farming

The Agriculture Reconciliation Committee in Middletown ruled for farmer Randy Sowers in a dispute with Vernon and Gwendolyn Troxell and neighbor Randy Sowers, citing that flies and manure are a facet of farming. The case, the committee’s first, centers on decades of manure spread near Mount Tabor Road and ongoing odor and fly issues affecting nearby residents.

East Street extension hearing draws support and concerns

About 100 people attended a Wednesday public hearing on extending Frederick's East Street. Most comments supported the plan, but safety and parking worries emerged, along with a perception of eastside neglect by officials. The first phase would stretch 0.8 mile from the future I-70 Walser Drive interchange to East Patrick Street, aimed at linking to the MARC station and easing crossings at Carroll Creek. Constance Wrench urged prompt completion, citing repeated rear-ends from southbound drivers ignoring No Through Traffic. Carmen Lopez warned the engineer has not studied safety and that the design could endanger children, adding East Frederick residents feel like the city’s dumping ground for undesirable projects.
